On January 31, this year’s Winter Formal, “A Night in Paris,” was at a new venue–Hyatt Regency Long Beach–for the first time in recent years. Students enjoyed a three-course meal, spending time with their friends, and dancing their hearts out.
Many people take advantage of the event to enjoy the experience of dressing up formally and taking photos. Mrs. Carrie Espinoza, who attended the dance with her oldest daughter, is always “super impressed” by the students. She loves chaperoning dances and seeing the makeup, the hair, the suits, and the dresses. “I just love seeing all the fashion and how you guys just light up from the inside out,” she said.

Samantha Ng, a senior who attended Winter Formal with her date, fellow senior Corey Geyer, prefers Winter Formal over other dances because of the food. It’s nice to “actually get a break for a second,” she explained. Attendees enjoyed a salad, main course, and a chocolate mousse along with laughter and conversations with their tables, which each seated twelve.
Besides the meal aspect and the opportunity to spend time with friends, Nate McDevitt, one of the first people to get up and dance, thought “it felt really nice to get up on the dance floor and kind of encourage the people who were maybe a little bit too nervous at first to figure out: this is a dance–have fun!”
Espinoza also praised ASB’s decorations and dedication to the theme, with “little Eiffel towers on the table, the roses, the lights and everything, [and] the ballroom was gorgeous.” Ng lamented how although “the theme was cute, everyone wore black, which was not very exciting, but [it] made everyone else pop.”
Other people were less enthusiastic about the certain parts of the event, particularly how “last year’s dance floor was bigger” and not everyone liked the DJ’s “techno” style. Nonetheless, Cypress students enjoyed making fond memories at Winter Formal. Merci beaucoup to ASB’s weeks of planning, choice of theme and hard work! Oui’ll always remember this night.
