Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) continues to prove that hard work, leadership, and dedication pay off. Cypress FBLA delivered an outstanding performance at the Southern Section Leadership Conference (SSLC) and is currently preparing for the State Leadership Conference (SLC) this April.
FBLA helps students develop business skills, leadership experience, and career readiness through competitions, workshops, and community involvement. Cypress High’s FBLA club meets every Wednesday in room 320. “There’s a lot of advantages to FBLA,” said Mr. Don King, the club adviser. “You get experience competing against kids from all over the United States, members have gotten jobs and scholarships before, and team bonding from competing,” he said.
FBLA attended the Southern Section Leadership Conference (SSLC) on January 24, 2026. Abhinav Kolasani (11) was second in Entrepreneurship, Raghavi Vivekanandan (11) was third in Computer Problem Solving, Chloe Kim (11) was fourth in Advertising, Alyssa Park (9) was fourth in Intro to Marketing, Leslie Choi (9) was fourth in Intro to Business Communication, Josh Marinas (12) was fifth in Real Estate, Aiden Son (9) was sixth in Securities and Investments, Keshav Kumarsubha (9) was sixth in Intro to FBLA, Nihal Bhasuru (9) was eighth in Intro to Business Procedures, and Alyssa Park (9) was ninth in Intro to Retail and Merchandising.
Josh Marinas, the club president, congratulated the members. “I feel really proud of all of our FBLA members, no matter how far they got through section or not. They all put their effort in and I’m really proud of how dedicated they are to the club,” he said.
With SSLC behind them, members are now focused on preparing for the State Leadership Conference (SLC). The competition at the state level is harder, bringing together top qualifiers from across California.
“I placed eighth in my event and to move onto state, I needed to get sixth place or above. I was lucky enough that some people above me decided to drop the event and I moved up to sixth place, automatically making it to state,” said freshman Nihal Bhasuru, “I’m really grateful for that and I’m going to put my all into SLC.”
As SLC approaches, FBLA Centurions are using the momentum from the SSLC wins to prepare for the competition diligently. The team is ready to represent Cypress at the state level and make our school proud.
