The Cypress High School girls’ basketball team is scheduled to commence its 2025-2026 season with its initial game on November 17, 2025. The team is entering this season following a performance in the prior year that “didn’t go as we hoped but it did motivate everyone to improve,” said Senior Hannah Walker. “I know our team is ready to do great out there…last season was our rebuilding year and this year we’ve been working hard and have a better bond,” said Junior Sarina Ulep-Rodriguez.
During the off-season, the team engaged in structured training programs aimed at improving everyone’s conditioning and developing technical basketball skills. “We started our preparations this past summer early…the girls have been doing great working hard,” said coach Nathan Rivera. Activities focused on refining offensive and defensive strategies, as well as improving individual player techniques. Practices included drills designed to increase efficiency in shooting, passing, and rebounding. “I believe that we’re all ready…we all worked hard to improve ourselves…I’m really excited for this team” said Walker.
Efforts were also directed towards strengthening team coordination and communication. Through collaborative drills and team exercises, players worked to improve their on-court synergy and strategic execution. The team’s biggest goal for the upcoming season is to as Walker stated “use last year’s experience to better ourselves and hopefully make it and win league,” and to “establish a consistent presence in league play,” said Rivera.
The team’s preparation includes a focus on tactical implementation and consistent performance. “I know we’ll go far this year because I see all the hunger everyone has to play and win in everyone while practicing,” said Senior Kiana Mitchell. With a structured approach to training and a clear set of objectives, the Cypress High girls’ basketball team is positioned to demonstrate its progress throughout the season.
