Cypress ASB is collaborating with clubs across campus for a holiday community service project offering hope in the form of a pack of essentials to those in need. In particular, the Bags of Hope project is committed to providing gifts to underprivileged families in Orange County going through difficult times. The project was founded with the mission of “inspir[ing] generosity that spreads hope,” according to their website.

Some Cypress High School clubs are participating because community service is central to their club mission, but still others simply wanted to take advantage of “what makes the holidays truly wonderful—being able to love and give back,” according to Hearts on Fire Club President Natalie Uy. As a Catholic club, Hearts on Fire is dedicated to faith, fellowship, and service. The Bags of Hope project encompasses their third goal precisely. Uy describes it as “wonderful to see how generous our club members were in helping us with the ambitious commitment to completing four bags.” Their club even turned the project into an activity, making cards they signed themselves for the recipients of their bags.
Similarly, Cypress Pantry Project recently launched their club with a similar motive of community service. They are “holding a food drive soon, where the goal is to receive as many donations as possible and give back to those in need,” according to club head of creative design, Joy Kim.
Cypress Book Club just finished building and installing 10 little lending libraries in small businesses throughout the community. According to Book Club Co-President April Kim, they wanted to “make reading more accessible in underserved, low income communities with limited library access.” Their Lending Library Project contributes to Book Club’s overall goal of “inspir[ing] a love for learning in the community,” so seeing their project’s success “has been very rewarding, and it shows that even small actions can make a big impact.”
