Last Season, the Cypress Boys’ Soccer team advanced to the CIF playoffs quarterfinals, but lost 3-5 against Hillcrest High School. They’ve improved significantly since then, and their team has grown substantially.
Diego Meza, one of the new faces for the 2025-2026 season, is a member of the freshman boys’ soccer team. He has given his all to this sport, starting at the age of 5, with the hope of continuing it at UC San Diego.
Meza’s experience with his teammates over the past few weeks of getting to know them has taught him an enormous amount. “Nobody talks badly of one another, and everyone is kind to each other,” he said. They are all a united group, from the field to the classroom.
Jacob Cortez, a Senior and varsity soccer player, has been playing throughout high school and started at a young age. Soccer is something that Cortez enjoys, as he says, “I like focusing on it,” giving it his true attention to enhance, and make it to the major leagues in university.
Mohammed Abukhalaf, varsity player, started playing soccer because of his father, who pushed him to be a better competitor. Since childhood, he has learned that this game does not just require one person to improve; it takes teamwork to excel.
He says, “I’m a very hard worker,” and he works on any task that starts to get difficult for him, which makes him a great player and teammate.
Rodrigo Olivera, Coach for the freshman/sophomore soccer team, is passionate about his work and his team. He himself started soccer as a young kid and has many memories of his father being there for him.
Unlike others, with years of experience, he began his coaching path last year at Cypress High School, at the recommendation of his predecessor, for JV and Freshman.
The community is always engaged, from the students to the parents,” he states everyone works hard equally, even if they aren’t dribbling the ball.
Starting December 2nd, these boys will begin the season against Anaheim High School, and with their dedication, they will win, just as they did last year, with a 1-1 tie for the JV team.
