This fall, Centurions have been fighting hard, representing Cypress in various championships. From the volleyball court to the golf course, Cypress athletes have given it their all in order to secure their place in history.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
For the first time in 18 years, Cypress’ girls volleyball made it to CIF State Championships and worked ruthlessly to claim the top pedestal for themselves. With a final score of 3-0, Centurions defeated Foothill and became CIF Division 3 Champions. This hardfought victory was nothing short of deserving, as they put everything into getting where they are today. Junior Katrina Sokolowski emphasized the strong work ethic of her team and how it got them the win, “My teammates are like a second family…Everyone works so hard outside of practice and they’re all just such good people.” Now they are off to state in hopes of reigning victorious once again.
CROSS COUNTRY

As for cross country, Cypress’ girls and boys found great success as they fought their way through CIF and North Hills championships. Coach Matthew Tweed noted that going into these championships, their mindset was to “give our best and make sure we had no regrets after the race.” The girls took home the North Hills Champion title for the first time since 2008, demonstrating incredible performance and determination to win it all. Placing second overall, sophomore Samantha Treadway said, “Winning league finals was really close with El Modina, and we just had to do our best to pass everyone in our league.” The boys qualified for CIF and put all their effort into competing in a tough league. Tweed stated that, “lots of young runners emerged to ensure the future of Cypress cross country is bright.”
GIRLS TENNIS
Although the girls tennis team fell short in CIF, Cypress seniors Izampella Gavra and Ashley Park won first place for doubles. Gavra reflected on their season, “We were second in the league and won a lot of games…It was hard work but we supported each other and believed in ourselves.” They are now off to CIF individuals. Park is looking forward to competing once more, emphasizing how she hopes to claim one last victory. “I’m excited because it’s my senior year and I don’t know how far I’ll get but my goal is to make it to the championships.”
GIRLS GOLF
On the golf course, Cypress’ girl’s golf went 8-0 as they made their way to CIF. Unfortunately, they were unable to bring the win home but still used the experience as a valuable lesson and opportunity for team bonding. “It was pretty hard because we only had six people on our team and we had to have six people to play,” Senior Kate Zapanta noted, “If I could have, I would have practiced more and spent more time with my team outside of golf.” Zapanta emphasized the crucial role motivation and morale had in the team’s determination to get through any obstacles.
This year’s sports continue to deliver diligence with relentless teamwork and skill across every game. Whether teams have finished their season or are continuing onto the next round of competition, they continue to represent Cypress High School with pride and hard work.
