The 64th GRAMMYs Awards show took place on April 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and people had a lot to say about the winners and losers.

  1. Record Of The Year Nominees
  • I Still Have Faith In You
    ABBA
  • Freedom
    Jon Batiste
  • I Get A Kick Out Of You
    Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga
  • Peaches
Justin Bieber Featuring Daniel Caesar & Giveon
  • Right On Time
    Brandi Carlile
  • Kiss Me More
    Doja Cat Featuring SZA
  • Happier Than Ever
    Billie Eilish
  • Montero (Call Me By Your Name)
    Lil Nas X
  • drivers license
    Olivia Rodrigo
  • Leave The Door Open – WINNER
    Silk Sonic

For the Record of the Year category there was stiff competition as there were many songs nominated that had a huge impact this year. The songs that people believed were most likely to win were “drivers license,” “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” “Kiss Me More,” or the actual winner “Leave The Door Open.” Olivia Rodrigo had a huge year and deservedly won many Grammys, and because she won three Grammys outside of this category, it is fair that she didn’t win this category. Lil Nas X also had a very big year and his hit song caused huge controversy as the music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” featured him dancing down on a pole to hell and dancing on the devil. Lil Nas X unfortunately did not win any Grammys this year, which he deserved to as the song itself was very good and the conversation he started was important. “Kiss Me More” did end up winning another Grammy and because of that it is fine it didn’t win this category, however, the nomination was very deserved as Doja Cat and SZA are both talented artists. “Leave The Door Open” is very deserving of this win as Silk Sonic’s vocals are amazing and 70s inspired production is magical.

  1. Album Of The Year Nominees
  • We Are – WINNER
    Jon Batiste
  • Love For Sale
    Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga
  • Justice (Triple Chucks Deluxe)
    Justin Bieber
  • Planet Her (Deluxe)
    Doja Cat

    Billie Eilish
  • Back Of My Mind
    H.E.R.
  • Montero
    Lil Nas X
  • Sour
    Olivia Rodrigo
  • Evermore
    Taylor Swift
  • Donda
    Kanye West

Many people had not listened to “We Are” by Jon Batiste (which won album of the year), and the album most people were rooting for to win was “Planet Her” by Doja Cat. “Planet Her” was an amazing album and solidified Doja Cat as a versatile artist who is here to stay. The different genres she explored and the way she sings and raps on the same songs is pure excellence. Another album that was a strong contender to win was “Sour” by Olivia Rodrigo. Although the Grammys do not take into account sales or charts, this album was huge and most people know a few songs from this album even if it is unintentionally. The songs are very well written and it brought Olivia Rodrigo to new heights in her career. Following his win, Jon Batiste gained many fans and people are very excited for his career post Grammys as his album saw a sales boost of over 2,746%.

  • Right On Time

Since “Leave The Door Open” won for record of the year, many people wished another song won song of the year because there were so many great songs nominated, but it is a great song and if it didn’t win in another category people would’ve been satisfied with the win. People expected the same artists to win song of the year that were expected to win record of the year, with the addition of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever” as it is a beautiful song that was extremely well written.
