Cypress High School’s softball team has experienced success over the past few seasons and continues to improve as the season approaches its end. As of the 2024-2025 score review, these ladies were ranked #40 in California and scored 19-10 overall. This year, maintaining the season’s winning momentum, these centurions have won multiple games, including the Los Alamitos home game on February 24th, 9-1, and Irvine High School on February 21st, 9-4, with further games anticipated.
Salma Regis, a freshman at Cypress High School, enjoys softball and was “put on” by her father and brother, influencing her to try it, to see if she would eventually enjoy it. Not only is the game the reason she wants to pursue softball in the long run, but also the social environment. Regis states how the “community in softball is very open and fun, and everyone gets along,” with no unwanted drama, just people who enjoy the same attributes.
Sadie Sievers, a senior and varsity softball player, has been playing since she was 9 years old. Sievers was inspired by her mother, who also played her entire life. In the future, she hopes to continue the sport in college at Azusa Pacific University. She is an incredible player with many milestones; as of this weekend, March 7th and 8th, in Bullhead City, Arizona, the softball team won 4-2 with 7 home runs, including 1 by Sievers. She couldn’t have done this without her coach, Coach Thompson, who “motivates and believes in her, while also making practice enjoyable.”
Terry Thompson, the head coach for softball at Cypress High School, has much to say about his team and their united stance, as he states, “The girls are an extremely cohesive group, there is no animosity, or jealousy on this team.” With 20 years of coaching experience, Thompson has enjoyed his time at Cypress High School and hopes to stay longer. He has adapted to this team and continues to improve by “understanding the new girls’ identities from a team standpoint, and knowing what works for them.”
This team has achieved many milestones and will achieve even more soon. In the recent game against Gahr (a 5-8 loss), Tia Hernandez and Hayden Warner together scored two crucial points. These ladies have pushed themselves to their limits, and so has the entire team.
