The Cypress High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams are eagerly anticipating the start of their season, marked by their participation in the Villa Park Relays on March 7, 2026. Both teams have been diligently preparing, balancing excitement with the natural nervousness that accompanies competition. The focus has been on honing skills and building team cohesion to ensure a strong start.
In the weeks leading up to their first game, the teams have engaged in rigorous training. To help with their training, the teams practice specific breathing techniques, endurance training, and teamwork since a lot of their meets rely on it. Sophomore Olivia Kim said, “We have a new team with new players, so we’ve been practicing hard after school for two hours, working on our endurance and strips.” These include early morning practices focused on endurance and afternoon sessions dedicated to refining stroke techniques and improving speed.

Junior Sophia Novak comments, “We’re all just boosting each other up and trying to go through it with a positive mindset, even though some of us are scared for next season.”
The girls coach, Vy Nguyen, said, “We’re really trying to go for league and maybe even CIF this season, so we’re making sure to practice hard and build a strong team bond”. The teams all look forward to seeing how their hard work pays off in their future games. “We’re all kind of excited and nervous to see how we’d do in the relay,” said Senior Brody Beukelman. Kim stated, “It’s harder this season because some people didn’t return, we have a lot of new players, and we’re just getting back in the waters, but I still have high hopes that we’ll all make it to CIF.” The team’s aim is to demonstrate their sportsmanship and team spirit this season.
