Primate, a new horror/thriller film that came out on January 9, 2026. It features a group of college girls, Lucy, Hannah, and Kate coming home for the holidays, where we’re introduced to Ben, a chimpanzee adopted into Lucy’s family. Everything is going great till Ben is bitten by a rabid animal, then going crazy and attacking and killing those around him.
After coming home from college, the girls decide to go over to Lucy’s house where Hannah is first introduced to Ben. While there Lucy’s father Adam discovers Ben injured, worried he calls the vet and then leaves for a business trip. As soon as Adam goes away the girls decide to plan a party before noticing something is wrong with Ben. Worried, they check up on him only to get attacked., Lucy, who grew up with Ben tries to figure out what’s wrong and calls the vet, only to find out he’d already been there, but was attacked by Ben. Scared, the girls remember Ben’s fear of water and jump in the pool to get away. In desperation they try to leave the pool one by one to get help, or run away, before Ben picks them off one after the other.
After the movie came out, it received mixed reviews on how the film was made. “The movie didn’t have much of a storyline, jumping from one scene to another, with no real flow to the story,” said Junior Dean Hester. Another junior Thomas Bono complained how it seemed like “the movie had very gory parts which is good but, it was like there was more time spent on perfecting those scenes instead of the plot.” While there were some negative reviews on the movie, there were some who “loved the movie, it kept me on the edge of my seat,” claimed junior Jasmine Umayam.
Even though Primate didn’t fully satisfy everyone with its story flow, its exciting and scary moments definitely kept some viewers hooked. The mixed reactions to the movie show a common difficulty in horror films: finding the right balance between shocking gore and an interesting plot.
