Cypress High School held its annual blood drive on October 28th 2025, and more than 100 students showed up to donate. The event was run by the Red Cross Club, which has been growing each year.
Club president Allison Phan (12) said she first became interested in the club during her freshman year. “I saw the Red Cross table at club rush and got really interested,” she said. “I got involved with the outside chapter where you can work with other clubs in the district. It started as volunteering, then wanting to run a blood drive of my own.”

Phan explained that donating is simple as long as students meet the height and weight requirements. Sixteen-year-olds need a parent permission slip, and all donors should eat well and drink plenty of water the night before.

Mrs. Governo, the Patient Care Pathway instructor and Red Cross Club adviser, works at the check-in table and makes sure everything runs smoothly. “My role is making sure all donors are checked in and out of Red Cross.” she said. She also shared that donors receive fun incentives like snacks, T-shirts, gift cards, and this time a raffle ticket for four Knott’s Berry Farm passes.
Senior Jack Ramirez said his reason for donating was straightforward, “I felt like helping people. Blood donations, there’s always a need for that.”
Mrs. Governo hopes more students will choose to donate in the future. “When you donate blood, you save three lives,” she said. “It’s a great way to give back to your community.”
For students who missed this event, don’t worry! The school’s next blood drive is scheduled for March 6.
