Halloween is coming up just around the corner on October 31. Students at Cypress High School are already gearing up to show off their creativity.

“I’d buy it a few months in advance because it’s cheaper during the summer,” senior Jason Lee explained. He saves a lot of money by buying costumes over the summer, rather than buying them in October. What Lee enjoys most about Halloween is the free candy that he collects.

Junior Karman Dao says he “enjoys coordinating matching costumes with friends.” He finds it fun to wear a costume and find a good group of friends to match with. Dao’s favorite part of Halloween is “being able to spend time with his friends.” Dao explained how “dressing up is key to Halloween, and it’s become a tradition.” He finds dressing up to be really fun and says, “You can make a lot of memories with your friends.”

Students mostly get inspiration from popular apps like Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok. Junior Cynthia Vu recommends getting costume ideas and inspiration from Pinterest. The variety of matching or solo costume ideas is immaculate. This Halloween, Vu and her friends found a theme they liked and decided to match costumes. “It’s because I went to Universal Studios and I bought the Toad Mushroom Head. [My friends] all agreed to dress up as Super Mario Kart characters to match me.”
