This year, Cypress held their 2025 Prom at the ARTIC Anaheim on April 12th with the theme of “Meet Me in Manhattan.” Prom night has become a significant part of high school traditions nationwide, where every junior and senior savor their last monumental high school dance.

The check-in for the dance started at around 7 PM, where students filtered through the venue as the music played in the background. Once students entered the site, they were greeted with desserts such as brownies, cookies, and more near the door, paired with a soda or water bottle of their choice. As the night continued, songs such as “Baby,” “HOT TO GO!,” and “Not Like Us” played throughout the night. Other activities included photo booths, a 360 Photo Booth, and even blackjack and poker on the second floor.

As the night progressed, the crowd grew in anticipation for the Prom King and Queen to be announced. The process of selecting the nominees for this year’s prom was mainly based on a form given to the teachers of Cypress, who selected one boy and one girl to be nominated. Then the nominees were sorted by ASB, who announced the nominees through Cypress ASB’s Instagram, alongside a form for seniors to cast their votes. Once the final nominees walked up the steps of the ARTIC, they gathered on the stairs for the big reveal. The nominees for this year’s Prom King included Jackson Houston, Garret Rodriguez, and John Short. As for the Prom Queen, included Brizza Cipres, Elysia Kim, and Rylee Schneider. It wasn’t long before it had been announced that Jackson Houston and Elysia Kim were crowned Prom King and Queen, and the cheers of the students surrounding the staircase echoed throughout the venue. Prom Queen, Elysia Kim said, “They were really nice too–we were all rooting for each other! We were like ‘I’m so nervous!’ It was crazy!”
When it comes to planning a successful night, it can take months, if not up to a year’s work prior to the dance itself. The 2025-2026 ASB President, Logan Henderson, recalls, “We’ve been thinking about a theme since…February–with that, you just communicate with the venue and the planners to have the materials put together and organize them. By the time prom came up, it was just ready to go.” The process of planning this year’s prom had already started last March, by booking a venue. This process would later be organized during the ASB camp that takes place over the summer.
Prom night continues to spread excitement every year, whether it be by learning the prom theme for the year, the venue, or even the nominations for Prom Court. ASB and staff continuously work to provide a successful dance for juniors and seniors throughout the year.
