The softball season at Cypress High School has been full of challenges and great moments this year. The team has played 19 games so far (12-7) and has nine more to go. Their Crestview league record is 1-4, but Cypress won their first game against Kennedy High School with a score of 9-2. The girls are facing some of the toughest teams in Southern California. Despite the tough competition, the players and coaches continue to play positively and work together as a team.
Mr. Kevin Dull is a Special Education and English teacher at Cypress High School. He has been coaching softball here for 21 years. He helps lead the varsity team by coaching first base and assisting with pitching strategy. “We’re probably in the most competitive league in all of Orange County, possibly Southern California,” he said. Despite the difficulty, He is proud of how the girls support one another through hard times. An aspect of this season he found special was the “healthy and close bond players had. “I’m proud of them because they always give their 110% effort in every game,” he added.

Senior pitcher Delaney Faus shared her experiences throughout the season. She enjoys her position because she gets to “be in every play” and “stay in control of the game.” Two things she has improved this season are her pitching speed and hitting. Although the start of league games has been rough, Faus says the teammates continue to support each other. “We just try to keep our energy up and cheer for each other and just pick each other up,” she said. Her favorite part of being on the team is building friendships with her teammates.
This season has been full of challenges, the Cypress softball team continues to work hard, grow together, and keep their heads high. With support from their coaches and each other, the girls are showing what team spirit looks like.
