New Teacher Hawkins Loves Teaching Health

by Jonathon Rice, Staff Writer

Ms. Shelly Hawkins is a first-year teacher at Cypress High who teaches health science.  When asked what her first impressions of Cypress High are, she cheerfully answered, “It’s so clean… and the people are so friendly!”

One of her favorite parts of Cypress High so far is that “the students and the families are involved.”

Hawkins explained that she was transferred here automatically from Loara High, but since her friend Ms. Nielsen worked here she “was excited about that.”

Hawkins’ many strengths as a teacher include “relating to [her] students” and being “pretty entertaining!”

Hawkins never gets bored: “I like being around the students. They keep me young. Every period is different, so it keeps my attention.”
