This year’s talent show highlighted a wide range of student talent, from sweet piano melodies such as Judge’s Choice winner Josh Marinas who performed “Golden Hour” by JVKE, to rock bands

such as competitors Ezra Jarvis, Nacho Guerrero, and Omar Moreno in their band “hihello” who started the night off with “Jacaranda” by Modern Color.
Not only did the audience get to witness a collection of student performances, members of the Cypress High Staff joined in on the fun. ASL teacher Ms. Winterton and senior Jake Silao sang “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye, and their performance won Judge’s Choice. “I’ve been performing ever since I was little,” Silao said, “…this was my first time in the talent show, but being in a Filipino family, singing and dancing has always been a part of my life.”
This year’s Judge’s Choice winners (as well as last year’s talent show winners) Seniors Julain “JD” Trujillo, Brady Bowman, Jude Black, and Reese Ciccarelli performed “All Will Suffer” by Shattered Realm with their band “What Remains.” The band closed the night off with their contribution in support of the Anti ICE movement with the lead singer unzipping his jacket revealing a shirt reading “Melt Ice.” After winning for a second year in a row, the band agreed that they were “in it to have fun” and if they were to leave a final message before graduating, they wo

uld say, “watch out for What Remains.”
Audience Choice winner Senior Roberto Cardenas tugged on the audience’s hearts with a love song sung in Spanish. “The song basically means ‘wake up in your arms,” Cardenas explained. “I was singing it one day and my sister said I sounded good, but I definitely never expected to win.”
The event showcased a diverse range of performances, while bringing together students, staff and the school community in celebration of their creativity.
