Cypress High School’s boy’s water polo came back with a splash this year, with new coach Julia Reyes to guide them. The team returned more team oriented and more competitive with a drive to win.
The team powered through their first game of the season winning against California High with 13-3. The team continued their winning streak in the next two games against Buena Park High, and Fountain Valley High with the scores 15-14 and 11-5. Unfortunately their winning streak was lost as they went up against Esperanza High and El Toro High, even though the team had some lows, with determination they gained another win against Buena Park High by the score of 16-14.
During the next four games against Glendale, Pacifica, Sunny Hills, and San Dimas High the team had lost, but took those losses and won the next two games against Centennial 8-7, and Kennedy High 17-7.
Dylan Pham said “the first week is always hard so don’t give up.” The team is working hard to go all out in school, practice, and games. Coach Reyes said, “even though the team is working hard you could always see the happiness from the team, and their will to learn” and that “the team is looking forward to our last home games and celebrating our seniors.”
As boy’s water polo comes to an end, the water polo team leaves us in awe of their dedication, resilience and unwavering spirit in the pool.
