Michael Matsuda has been the superintendent for AUHSD since March 2014. He has made a lasting impact on all the schools in the district. Being a superintendent comes with numerous responsibilities, including setting the vision for the district’s programs and policies. He handles any challenges that come up for the district, helps teachers improve student achievement, and collaborates with the school administrations. 

Cypress High Principal Jennifer Brown said Matsuda has “done an amazing job at building connections for our district, with outside companies and cities, so that we can offer more internships.”

Many staff members in the district enjoyed working with him. Brown said, “One of the best things about Mr. Matsuda is that he is a visionary. He’s somebody who can kind of take things and look ahead, and he’s not afraid of stepping outside of the norm and trying new things.”

As Matsuda’s career comes to an end, he knows that “kids today have a lot of empathy.” As superintendent, he interacted with many and visited many campuses, and he “will miss working with the students.” 

In an interview, on the day he announced his retirement, he said he “knew it was time” to leave, but he’s not worried about our district because “there are a lot of good people.” Although Matsuda is leaving AUHSD, the impact he made on our schools will be long-lasting.
