With a record of 6-0, the Cypress High School football team had an explosive beginning to the season. Cypress has beaten Foothill (27-13), San Juan Hills (35-10), Western (44-20), Katella (40-0), Capistrano Valley High School (41-38), and Tustin (44-20). In practice, they are working hard and with intensity.  Even the head coach, Rick Feldman, was named OC Register’s Orange County Coach of the Year.

Feldman believes this will be a good year of football with tough competition. Feldman said, “All of the teams we play are good going into league, most people thought Tustin would be the toughest team in the league and Crean Lutheran has been really good so far.”

Even though the team is undefeated, there is always a way to improve. Feldman said that they have had too many turnovers this year.

Last year the football team started with a loss, but then went on to go 10-3 overall and 5-0 in league. So far we are undefeated and hopefully stay that way.

On the 9/29/22 CTV Sports broadcast of the Tustin game, players Trevor Monteleone, Aidan Houston, and Matthew Morrell were all mentioned as standouts by commentators Coach Kevin Dull and Coach Mo Pottios.

In the end, Feldman said, “Our goal is to make them better people off the field and better players on the field. Win with class, lose with dignity. Don’t make excuses. And give 100% all the time. When you do those things, the rest kind of takes care of itself.”
