As time for college applications rolls by, many seniors of 2025 have their commitments locked down. This is the case for senior’s Alexis Schober, Nicole Thach and Grace Kim. These seniors have looked at their options, researched and specified which study and college best suits them.
Within the field of Engineering, Senior Schober committed to UCLA in the study of Civil Engineering. “I toured the campus, the way I stepped onto it felt like I belonged there.” Schouber said. She remarks how UCLA’s more research based programs interested her the most. Connections within her school also intrigues her, helping to find her future career out of college.
Thach took the closer approach, picking out a local college near her area. Considering Fullerton Community College, studying Screenwriting film and television. Looking at their film programs, Thach found Fullerton’s options for film best suited for her study. “I have taken some AP classes, and that taught me to have a work ethic that would be fit for college,” Thach said.
Committing to Pitzer College, Kim finds her college located in Claremont California right for her. Looking forward to the school’s Consortium program, having the opportunity to study the 4 major colleges near that area like; Claremont McKenna, Pomona, Harvey Mudd and Scripps colleges. Kim’s interests in the school’s interdisciplinary learning helped her pick out Pitzer’s college.
When transitioning into college, high school students need to figure out how they can apply their Cypress experience to college. Schober utilized AP courses, Honor courses and dual enrollment during her four years at Cypress. While taking tedious classes like AP Physics and AP Calculus AB, Kim realized “collaboration is very important… I learned how to collaborate with my peers and got to solve math problems.” In addition, she utilized her teacher’s resources, helping her learn the importance of relationship building with your teachers and future professors. Before committing to a college, it is necessary to change up academic habits to ensure your college is right for you.
This year’s class of 2025 deciding their college commitments helps to pave the way for their futures, and the decisions future committers look forward to. The ways that students applied their time at Cypress to their future college lives greatly remark the hard work and effort it takes to commit to these colleges.
