Cypress Dance had its 2025 Spring Dance Concert, “Dance the Night Away,” on April 10th and 11th at Kennedy Performing Arts Center. Dancers showed off the skills they’ve learned over the past couple of months, performing to fun songs such as Turn Down for What, Mi Gente, Sticky, Intro to Glory, and On the Floor.
Of course, every dancer has their favorite part of the show after doing multiple shows. Senior Sydney Hoffman said, “The best part of the show is watching the freshmen and sophomores…It’s just so fun to be leaders to them as the older seniors.” Senior Yana Pakhunova added, “It is fun to see how they progress as dancers throughout the dance show.” Senior Justin Vo explained, “Performing on stage is a great boost of confidence for people, especially if you’re shy.”

Throughout the show, there were many exciting parts. Mrs. Kerri Fenton, who has taught at Cypress for 20 years, shared, “I’m super excited for this show. This is the first time that every class has done at least three class dances. The end is super cool, and we all dance together on stage. We have not done this before, so I’m excited about that.”
There are a lot of behind-the-scenes challenges that come up with putting a show together. Fenton said, “Challenges are often spacing, timing, quick costume changes, and lighting.” However, the dancers work hard during rehearsals and in class to make sure it’s an unforgettable experience.
Cypress Dance stands out from other schools for many different reasons, especially the dance teacher, Fenton. As Hoffman explained, “Our teacher, Mrs. Fenton, runs everything.” Vo added, “We’ve seen teachers from other schools and they don’t have the energy like she does.” Pakhunova said, “She is energetic and she helps build communities that last for years.”
At the end, Fenton tells students, “Make good choices. Always make the best effort that you can. Put everything you have into it and express yourself completely through dance.”
