Girl’s Volleyball No Longer Underdogs
With an appearance in CIF, Cypress High School’s Girl’s Volleyball Team claimed their position as a top team with a 3-1 win against Marina. The team’s pace was constant throughout the tournament as they swiftly won against Santiago and St. Margaret, with box scores of 3-1. The Girl’s Varsity Volleyball pushed their limits and held through in times of pressure and demand.
Setter Hannah Schoffstall exemplified that the strongest aspect of their team was teamwork. “We worked really well together on the court but we would set goals before games about what we want to accomplish as individuals and as a team,” she said. Hannah takes pride in her team and the accomplishments she has made with them. “It makes me proud because of all the hard work that myself, my coaches, and my parents have given to help me get to where I am.”
Junior Isabella Faro reflected upon her team’s performance during CIF and explained that consistency was their biggest strength and weakness. She said, “A majority of the time, we would experience these peak moments and get distracted. We would dig ourselves into a hole we are unable to get back out of.” To stay focused, the team worked on visualizing their game plan and setting their goals in stone.
As this is one of the first years for Cypress High School’s Girls Varsity Volleyball Team to make it to the semifinals and state, the team is fueled with determination to go further next year. Showcasing the talents of every individual, their performance earned them the position of 10th in Division 3 and marked history.
