On November 30, students in Mrs. Doherty’s AP Environmental Science (APES) class attended a field trip to Magnolia Agriscience  Community Center (MACC) to conduct various lab experiments regarding what they are learning about in class. They visited different stations and did hands-on experiments to demonstrate what they have been learning, including ecological footprint, plant pigment, photosynthesis, sustainability, and agriculture.

Student Andy Nguyen, from Mrs. Doherty’s third period said,  “We saw chickens. That was cool, but I don’t really like going outside. . .I like how we got to see stuff in our curriculum and stuff that we learned in real life.”

Another student, Andi Babista said, “I liked the fact that we weren’t just being toured by a bunch of old people, but the people that actually go to the high school. I would definitely do it again if I had the chance.”

Doherty is hoping to take her Living Earth students to the MACC during the second semester this school year. The students enjoyed the chance to take a breath of fresh air outside of the classroom and explore the information from their unit in real time.
