Astros Defeat Phillies In World Series

by Carly Pedroza, Staff Writer

The Astros beat the Phillies in the World Series four games to two on November 5th, 2022 at Citizens Bank Park.

To get to the World Series, the Phillies beat the Padres 4-1 and the Astros beat the Yankees 4-0. The Phillies made it to the World Series for the first time since 2008, which took many fans by surprise. For the last three years the Astros have made it to the World Series but the last time they won was in 2017, which was famous for its cheating scandal. The Phillies have not won the World Series since 2008.

Astro outfielder Kyle Tucker made the final catch of the final game, but throughout all six games the Astros managed to stay pretty close in score with the Phillies. Out of all six games, the Phillies narrowly won two with the scores 6-5 for the first game and 7-0 for game three.

After becoming the second team in 20 years to blow a five plus run lead in a game in  the World Series, the Astros were out for revenge on the Phillies in game two. Astros pitchers combined for the second no-hitter in World Series history in game 4.

Astros Manager Dusty Baker won his first World Series as manager. Baker has been a part of the MLB for 54 years. He played 19 seasons with a few different teams including the World Championship Dodgers, but in 1992 he decided to be a manager. He is the first manager in MLB history to take five different teams to the World Series.

Despite the fact that the Astros received punishments from MLB for their cheating scandal they were still able to make it to the World Series, angering some fans.  As a punishment for their cheating General Managers Luhnow and Hinch were suspended for the 2020 season, including the playoffs, and later fired

Although the controversy won’t go away soon, the talent of this year’s Astros cannot be denied.
