The girl’s volleyball teams have reigned undefeated so far this season. On September 20th, all three teams faced the Centurion’s rivals, the Fighting Irish, at Kennedy High School. The Frosh team won 2-1, Junior Varsity won 2-0, and Varsity snatched the victory 3-0!

Volleyball is a sport that not only challenges players physically, but also mentally. Three girls from the Varsity team, Tabitha Ojeda, Rachel Millanes, and Isabella Ortega, agree that volleyball is a psychologically tough sport.

Every position has worries and anxiety about their performance on the court, but they overcome their apprehension in different ways. Millanes and Ortega found that distracting themselves from previous plays and continuing to communicate with their teammates helps calm down their anxiety. Ojeda reminds herself and her friends on the court, “It’s okay you got this, we got the next point!”

Tryouts were held on July 11, 2022. Ever since then, Cypress has conquered teams left and right all over the district. Zoey Henson, senior, reflects back on how she feels after her game against her school’s rivals. “I was expecting to do a little bit better on my part, but as a whole, we won, and it’s just another one for the books!” Henson added some inspiration and motivation for future volleyball players. “Fall in love with the sport while you can, because eventually, it can become a job,” Henson admitted. “If you stick with it, good things will come out of it.”

Girl’s Volleyball is doing outstanding this year. The bond and teamwork between each player is truly inspiring to anybody who comes to watch their games.
